👈🏻 Back to Best Children’s Games
At this point, kids are likely ready to handle a lot of lower-complexity “grown-up” games. That said, there are still a bunch of great options geared towards kids that are worth exploring here as well.
👀 Worth a Look
Games we haven’t tried yet ourselves, but we believe could be a good choice in this category.
My Little Scythe
Summary: Race to place your four trophies by exploring the map, collecting resources, gaining friendship, and upgrading your actions in this kid’s game inspired by Scythe.
You Might Like If… you want a family game that introduces a lot of modern board gaming strategy and can serve as a final stepping stone to a world of board games not geared towards kids.
Chronicles of Avel
Summary: Work together as a team of custom heroes and heroines with a mission to save your magical land.
You Might Like If… you want a cooperative, fantasy kids game with a sense of adventure and character customization, great presentation, and no reading requirement.
Toy Story: Obstacles & Adventures
Summary: Take on the roles of iconic characters from the Toy Story franchise as you build your deck and work together to advance through thematic scenarios.
You Might Like If… you want a solid deck-building game for kids and find the Toy Story theme appealing — the game covers Toy Story 1-4 and is based on the cooperative deck-building core system found in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle.
Kids Chronicles: Quest for the Moon Stones
Summary: Go on a quest as magicians’ apprentices, exploring and solving mysteries in order to find the four magical moon stones.
You Might Like If… you want a cooperative kids’ game that focuses on story and solving mysteries with an app-based system that streamlines exploring and taking actions by simply scanning QR codes on various cards. The base game comes with a tutorial and five stories, but worth noting that each scenario isn’t as fun to replay after you solve everything the first time.
Unlock! Kids: Detective Stories
Summary: Problem-solve as a team in three unique “escape room” scenarios using the simple card system implemented by the original Unlock! series.
You Might Like If… you want unique, one-time experiences that resemble the puzzles and problem solving found in escape rooms, but in a package designed specifically for kids. While the scenarios can really only be played once as you learn the solutions, there are additional sets in the series to explore if you enjoy them.
CoraQuest
Summary: Work together to guide four adventurers exploring a dungeon, avoiding traps, finding treasure, fighting monsters, and sometimes rescuing a gnome called Kevin.
You Might Like If… you want an RPG/dungeon-crawler that is a good entry point for younger kids and has a charming hand-drawn aesthetic that encourages creativity with adding custom content.
Codenames: Disney Family Edition
Summary: Give clever clues to connect various Disney characters as you try to help your team guess the correct cards from the grid.
You Might Like If… you want a kids game that encourages creative clue-giving, has a broadly appealing theme, and can serve as a stepping stone towards Codenames or other party games.
Junior Detective
Summary: Travel around the board in a race to solve a “whodunnit” case, gathering clues through magic reveals, mirrored text, and card text revealed by the heat of your own hands.
You Might Like If… you want a deduction game that is good for kids while still remaining interesting for older players and including some clever twists. Does require kids to be able to read card text.
Outnumbered: Improbable Heroes
Summary: Work together as a team of superheroes to defeat villains and minions through the strategic use of math.
You Might Like If… you want an educational game that practices math concepts while still being a fun cooperative game that doesn’t feel like doing school work.
